Preachin' to the Choir

"An exceptional writer with a flair for humor." --Romance Reviews Today

Jonathan could do nothing to aid his wife’s losing battle with cancer. With twenty years into the ministry, he can't believe the Lord would leave him suddenly with both an empty nest and empty spot on the other side of the bed.

Kat, music teacher and mother of grown twins, feels "settled" in small town Texas. Life may be dull, but at least it's predictable--unlike her life with her late ex. Kat has come to the conclusion that a happy, committed relationship with a male is impossible thing, so she makes peace with herself and with God. If nuns can live celibate for years, then why can't she make it the next fifty?

One Sunday Jonathan sees a golden beam alighting upon a radiant Kat as she directs the singers… Why hadn’t he noticed how beautiful she was before? From here on out he knows that he’ll be preachin’ to the choir. But will Kat—and his congregation—let him?

Note: This is a "traditional" romance (no graphic love scenes), but it is not considered an "inspirational" romance.

Cynthianna Appel's new release is an enjoyable contemporary story called, PREACHIN' TO THE CHOIR. It's a simple yet nicely written romance about a widowed Preacher finding love again with the most unexpected woman. I realize that this book isn't considered an inspirational read, yet there are many inspirational undertones throughout the story. So in my opinion, I think it's a very nice non-inspirational, inspirational book!

I enjoyed Cynthianna Appel's PREACHIN’ TO THE CHOIR. Not only were the main characters warm and likable, but also the congregation and the townspeople were likable (when they weren't gossiping). It was written very well and I really would have liked the story to go on a little longer. All in all, a very good read by a talented author.

Oh, this is lovely! -- Valerie Bongards, former editor

I liked the scene where Jonathan was asking her to dinner and how flustered she got. Pretty good writing. --Debby G.

An excerpt from the Preachin' to the Choir

“You enjoy dancing?” Jonathan asked

“Occasionally,” Kat replied. “With the right partner.”

Now it was Jonathan’s turn to sigh. “I wish I could oblige, but I am terminally afflicted with two left feet.”

Kat peeked out of the corner of her eye. “Nonsense. It doesn’t look that way to me. Anyone who’s coordinated enough to massage my hangover away like you just did is coordinated enough to dance. Let me show you.”

Kat gently removed Jonathan’s hands and rose from the table. “Follow me.”

Leading him into the living room, Kat crossed to the stereo and slipped an instrumental recording into the CD player. To the strains of “Strangers in the Night,” she placed Jonathan’s hands in the correct positions on her shoulder and the small of her back and began with a simple box step.

“There. That’s not too hard, is it?”

“No, it isn’t.” He raised his focus from his feet and looked deeply into her eyes. “You make dancing feel as natural as breathing.”

Suddenly shy, Kat lowered her gaze. “It is in a way. All you have to is let your feet follow the beat of your heart—er, the music. Yes, the music, I mean. Everything else will follow.”

“Will it?” Jonathan stopped, tilting her chin up in order to explore her expression. Gently, his arms gathered her closer to himself as he lowered his head toward her own.

“Jonathan, I…”

His lips tenderly grazed across hers, sending a tremor of delight coursing through her veins. For a moment, Kat clung fast to his form, fearing she would fall into a bottomless pit of nothingness if she pulled away. As his mouth settled deeper, her cares evaporated. Her soul ached with a burning need to reciprocate his kisses…
